Cooking while camping can be one of the most enjoyable things for campers to do. Whether you’re on a solo trip or part of an expedition, having access to a reliable food provider is a priority. So what sort of things can you expect from your cooking appliance while camping? Well to be honest there’s no reason why you can’t fry, bake, grill or barbeque your food, especially if you have a portable stove or a self-made fire pit to hand.

It’s never a good idea to use electrical equipment if the weather doesn’t look too great, so it’s better to stick to gas stoves or fires. If you’re planning on baking then simply bring a bit of baking foil and wrap your potatoes, vegetables or meat before rotating them over your open fire. If you have a stove, you’ll be able to place your food and then close the lid and let it cook through.

Not everyone has access to stoves and although they do make things easier, sometimes cooking over an open fire is much more enjoyable. The main thing to bear in mind is to ensure that your food is cooked properly, especially if it’s meat!

It’s great fun cooking while camping, so enjoy it in a safe and responsible way. Always take a set of matches too — take our word for it, using stones to create a fire isn’t fun.
